In fact, NANTA is a series of percussion performances, combined with a traditional Korean Folk Performance called 'SAMULNORI' (a four member drum and dance group). So of course, there's a lots of sound and plenty of comedy thrown in -- however, it's a usage of kitchen utensils/items such as pots, pans, dishes, knives, chopping boards, water bottles, brooms, and even each other into percussion instruments. You absolutely don't have to be either a cook or a Korean-Speaker to understand what's going on ... this is a charm of this show !!!
About the show, it's happened in October 1977 in Korea and still now !!! It's also the 1st Asian Show to stage on Broadway Musical in February 2001. So, it's the famous and must see indeed ... which now you can enjoy in Bangkok, Thailand ... Check out detail & booking at : ThaiTicket Major - Nanta here.
And as normal practice, I was not allowed to take any pictures or tape any part of performance. But I can show you some of the stage (real one) and part of clip from You Tube below.
The show was started with a so Korean -- from Korean Folk Music and move to Modern Music Forms under the performance of washing vegetable, carrying meat loafs, starting the fire ... as all the set was in Kitchen and they need to manage for a wedding reception to be on time at 6pm !!! Not only that The Manager brought his nephew as a new man to cook which others must teach this young man too ... This was where the Challenge began ...
And as I mentioned earlier, after the show finished, everyone was so enjoable ... without noticeable, we were part of the show !!! It's a kind of double the fun that we was participated in the show unnoticable (I even had my throat dry so much and my hands hurt due to my laughing, shouting, and clapping). I bet especially some of audiences had more fun than me as they were on stage as bride & groom or even had competition on dumpling with the cooks.
Proven was also shown after the show was done ... all the audience was still standing outside to enjoy more of the show as outside was set as a kind of exhibition ... where you can take photo with - puting your face onto the frame as you were the cook in NANTA !!!
