Old Chinese Restaurant : San Yod Phochana / Grand San Yod

Talking about Chinese Style Grills such as Roasted duck, BBQ Pork, or Crispy Pork, one of the place where my family always think of was San Yod Phochana or Grand San Yod on Sathorn Road ... It's the place where we used to come almost every weekend for lunch since I was young ... even now, I myself as an adult come for lunch sometimes during the working day !!!

This place is a very old Chinese Eating Place (Cantonese Style) which was established for more than 30 years --- Years ago, it was at the corner of the small alley near Sathorn Bridge called San Yod Phochana แสนยอดโภชนา . However, many years ago, the shop was on fired and was burnt down. Therefore, the owner decided to move inside and has 2 separated shops as :

1) San Yod Phochana แสนยอดโภชนา (at the left picture) selling one plate meal (no air-con) ; at low-end price

2) Grand San Yod แกรนด์แสนยอด (at the right picture) selling a kind of restaurant type with air-condition ; higher price for the restaurant type dish but one plate meal are the same.

San Yod is famous about its roasted duck as you can see that every table must order at least 1 plate (in various size) which you can order it alone, with rice, or even with egg noodle ... below left picture of plain roasted duck where you can see the big chunk of duck with crispy skin on ... underneath was filled with pickle ginger ... while below right picture was a mixed of BBQ pork & roasted duck.

There is no rule to order the grills here since customers can mix among all the grills – see also below picture ... a mixed of BBQ pork with Crispy Pork Belly ... the crispy pork was so softy yummy even there’s a lot of fat in but still containing the crispy skin on top.

Other Recommended Dishes :
- Lookchin Koong Phaad Pak Sophon (Shrimp Ball with Chinese Vegetable - a very left item on below left picture) -- Saen Yod is famous on Shrimp Ball ... it's because the shrimp ball was mixed with real shrimp ... full of shrimp ... tasty taste with sesame oil mixing. What I found was that anything that related to shrimp dishes are always good ... never change !!!
- Mahrah Phaad Pra Taosi (Civilla Fruit with fish fillet and black bean paste - a right item on below left picture) -- Don't think that this dish will be bitter ... San Yod has the way to make this vegetable not only be bitter but also yummy. The sauce (black bean sauce from China) has the unique taste that you must try.
- Kiew Koong Phaad Priktai Dum (Shrimp Wonton with Black Pepper Sauce - Below Right picture) -- biggest shrimp wonton I've ever had !!! Again, I would say that anything related to shrimp just trust San Yod I must say ...

If you need a quick fix during lunch time, go for one dish plate such as Rice Dish (from fried rice to Roasted Duck topped on rice), Noodle Dishes (various type of noodle).

However, I will show you on Fried Noodle Topped with Egg Soup (left picture) -- If you know Kuey Tiew Laad Nah, this is similar since it’s made from flat white noodle topped with same kind of gravy and shrimp – only if the gravy containing with egg … This is another yummy stip of Laad Nah … But Laad Nah itself here is also delicious

Kuey Tiew Laad Nah (Noodle with gravy - right picture), there are choices for you such as beef, pork, seafood -- I recommend you to order to use Hong Kong Chinese Kale (it's a bit more expensive but it's worth since you can get more crispy and yummy imported kale from Hong Kong rather than local Thai kale) -- no draff at all that's what I prefer !!!
